`A success !' - Nouvel Observateur
'We are riveted from start to end by this formidable lesson in mental survival' - Marie Claire
In this powerful work of fiction, Thomas Sheppard, the main character, returns to Cornwall, a small fishing village where he has to face the disapproving stares of his neighbors after spending several years in prison for supposedly killing his son. What initially seems like the story of a man persecuted for a crime he didn't commit, this novel digs deeper and more ambiguously than that. Though he certainly didn't kill his son, we learn that his death is something Thomas might've unintentionally wished for. In keeping company with the other damned and outcasts of Cornwall, he is on just another road towards the same dead end. Allowing his total despair to run its course, is perhaps his only chance of finding a new, secret and unhoped for path leading towards love.
