Never before Simha had worn such a beautiful dress, she who had been born into a poor family in the Jewish quarter of Casablanca at the dawn of the 20th century.
Since the early morning, her mother and her sister have been grooming her and fussing over her. They have taken her to the bathing house and she has been greeted with “youyou” cries when she got back to the house. Simha is fourteen now and it is the first time she has been invited to such a celebration. After having eaten seated next to her aunt’s husband, she becomes tired and wants to rest. When she says so to her mother, everyone bursts out in laughter: “tonight, you won’t be going home, my girl!” Simha does not know it yet. But today, she has been married.
2017, Paris. For the second time, Anna is getting a divorce. The movers already have taken away the last boxes. Alone in her former dining room, now empty and deserted, she would like for someone qualified to come and to officially register this tear in her life, to present her with a certificate acknowledging her suffering, a certificate of failure.
A world and two generations separate these women. Nevertheless, it is with her grandmother that Anna seeks shelter. Forlorn as she is, she hopes to find some solace in this apartment in Casablanca, filled with memories. Faced with the sadness of her granddaughter, Simha decides to finally reveal what she had never been able to tell during these family reunions when everyone was cutting her short…
