The inside story of the disappearance of Alexia Daval, murdered October 27, 2017, by her husband, Jonathann Daval.
“Her name was Alexia. She was our daughter. And it’s been four years since she was killed by the man who promised to love her. Ever since, we haven’t been living. We’ve been surviving. How else could we bear the horror we’ve felt since October 30, 2017, when we learned... “Her name was Alexia. She was our daughter. And it’s been four years since she was killed by the man who promised to love her. Ever since, we haven’t been living. We’ve been surviving. How else could we bear the horror we’ve felt since October 30, 2017, when we learned on TV that the body of a young woman had been found in Esmoulins forest just a few miles from our house after we had been looking for Alexia for two days?” That day, around 3:00 p.m., a trainee police officer discovered the lifeless, charred body of a young woman dressed in athletic clothes in some undergrowth on the edge of Esmoulins forest. For the young officer, there was no doubt—it was the body of Alexia Daval, who had disappeared two days earlier. It was her husband, Jonathann, who had reported her missing the previous Saturday. The confirmation of the body’s identity two days later filled Alexia’s parents with fear and horror. For three months, their son-in-law Jonathann, their daughter’s murderer, sat at their table, cried with them, spoke about Alexia, evoked her absence, his love, and how his life would be impossible without her, when in fact on the night of October 27, 2017, he beat her to death and strangled her, then moved her body to the forest and lit it on fire in the early morning. Four years after going through this unbearable ordeal, Isabelle and Jean-Pierre Fouillot, Alexia’s parents, have decided to tell their story to honor Alexia’s memory and try to forget the “Daval affair” while seeking to finally understand what happened to their daughter.
