The story of a teenage girl caught in a private tragedy in Algeria at the end of the 1980s, just as the threat of Islamic fundamentalism is on the rise.
Constantine, Algeria, 1986. At the age of fifteen, Latzari Luma has already seen a lot of the world. Her father, Bernard, is a station manager with a large aviation company, and so he uproots his family every three years—before it was Spain, now Algeria, then wherever the wind carries them... Constantine, Algeria, 1986. At the age of fifteen, Latzari Luma has already seen a lot of the world. Her father, Bernard, is a station manager with a large aviation company, and so he uproots his family every three years—before it was Spain, now Algeria, then wherever the wind carries them next. The Lumas’ life is carefree and easy in their little Constantine bubble, with weekends at the beach, hanging out with the kids at Tamanart, afternoons with her mother bathing at the hammam, gourmet picnics in the pine forest, spending time with other expats, and all the parties with the French community eating, drinking, and making merry till dawn. Latzari is always the first to sing, dance, and laugh... Yet behind her exuberance is a girl torn in two: during the day, she lives the life of a cheerful teenage girl, with her friends, stories, and music; but at night, she harbors a terrible secret that she has shared with her father since she was very young. Yet the Constantine bubble is about to burst: as Islamism creeps little by little into the life of the Algerian population and the threat increases day by day, Latzari realizes that she will have to save herself from her father, who now wants to introduce her to the pleasures of love. Whatever she decides, the world she has always known is about to disappear. And it’s up to her to not disappear with it...
