There is general agreement that Covid-19 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine have placed into sharp relief the limitations of the world imagined by the West after the Berlin Wall came down. It is the end of the cycle of globalisation but the question is: what comes next? For Michel Guénaire, who back in 2013 had already announced the return of the nation state in Le Retour des États (Grasset), the new world will involve a renewed commitment to the notion of the nation, which globalisation had sought to eradicate.
