The stunning story of a young French actor who flies to China on short notice to replace Adrien Brody in an action film with Mike Tyson and Steven Seagal.

[…] Every time I’ve been able to be part of a good film, or even an important project, things were always a bit more rational. It was as if fate was permanently having a good ol’ time laying out strange paths for me to turn my life into happy chaos. This wasn’t the first time the film world had given me a reasonable chance, but I was being careful, because our world has also proven to be hostile and complicated.” In September 2006, Clovis, a young French actor, was wandering down the halls of an entertainment unemployment agency when a casting director offered him an audition. The pitch was for an unlikely commercial praising the merits of a kebab sauce, from which he never heard back. Ten years later, after going from one casting to the next, gaining roles in subsidized theater, putting on smallbudget shows around the country, then breaking out in a television series on France 2 and shooting films with René Féret and Jean-Pierre Mocky, his phone rings: it’s the casting director he met at the unemployment agency all those years ago. An appointment is set to meet the director of a Chinese action film called China Salesman and starring none other than former boxing champion Mike Tyson and 90s action film king Steven Seagal. Clovis was sidelined until Adrien Brody pulled out at the last minute. Now the young French actor will replace the Hollywood star as a Québécois secret agent. It’s off to “Chinawood,” China’s Hollywood, for months of Kafkaesque shooting in Beijing and Mongolia!
