Eight centuries separate Aelig and Chloe, both 17-year-old teen girls. Aelig is the sole heir in the Line of Spirits, Chloe, in the Line of Wolves. In Aelig’s time, the world of Anturia lives in peace thanks to the balance established between the three tribes that lead it: the Line of Knowledge, the Line of Spirits, and the Line of Power. But when the Line of Power breaks the balance by killing off the two others, a totalitarian regime is established. Aelig, a powerful shaman, manages to use her skills to hide and escapes the massacre. But she fails to initiate her son, Helori. Deprived of this initiation, Helori is incapable of mastering the powerful gift he carries within him. Succumbing to madness, he breaks ties with his heritage and creates a new, ultra-violent line: the Line of Wolves.

Eight centuries later, Chloe’s family is hiding a secret: they are raising a ferocious pack of wolves in their territory. Every day since she was born, Chloe has been forced by her father to face the wolves in order to become brave. But she can’t manage to do it on her own. The fear is eating away at her and keeping her from feeling in control of herself. And her future is looking very dark: she is now 17 years old, meaning that in just one year, she must spend every day with a wolf trained to terrorize her. But she won’t put up with it. She refuses to imagine her life as a long, terrifying tunnel with no end in sight…
