It was the seventies. Once upon a time there was a little boy born into a family of shopkeepers. His Spanish grandfather had left the war of '36, crossed the Pyrenees and wandered through France until he found a peaceful haven in southern Finistère. There he decided to set up his small fruit and vegetable shop. The big boy he has become remembers with nostalgia these small shops that gradually disappeared. Thus the haberdashers, the coffee roasters, the four-season merchants, the stationery shops... a whole world which, in a few years’ time, was devastated by large-scale retailing. The author thinks that all is not lost. The day will come when small business will be reborn. Perhaps the good days are ahead of us.
