Born and raised in Tunisia by working class parents, Sonia Krimi, a worker at heart, built her future through books and education. She came to in France in 2005 to pursue university studies and obtained French citizenship in 2012. She settled in the department of La Manche, and was elected to represent it as a deputy in France’s National Assembly in the legislative elections in 2017.
Describing herself as a “humanist of the left,” “free,” and “liberal,” she is quickly becoming one of the rebel figures of the En Marche movement. She has become known for her views on immigration, especially after harshly calling out former Minister of the Interior Gérard Collomb over his draft bill on asylum and immigration, which she found too repressive, and arguing for the side of taking in refugees from the Aquarius. She has raised her voice against the legislative crackdown on public demonstrations, called for more transparency from the executive branch in the Benalla affair, and will not hesitate to put on a yellow vest to talk to demonstrators!
At 36, Sonia Krimi is already seen as leader of the rebel members of En Marche, and the defiant soul of France is practically making eyes at her. Here, with her usual free manner, she looks back at her political journey thus far and offers a sharp, uncompromising behind-the-scenes look at Macron’s presidency. Regularly appearing in the media, completely breaking the political mold, her candidacy in the Cherbourg municipal elections in 2020 is a sure win.
