Autumn 1973. Our young narrator, a pupil, 16 years old, slightly at a loss with himself and the world, leaves for the United States, ready to spend a year as an exchange student with a family in Idaho. The family fulfills all the expected cliches. The father, Rick, is a cop, his wife Joyce an assistant sheriff. They have two young daughters. Adolescent, moody, ironic and critical our narrator intends to have a good time, against the approval of the school and against the wishes of the family he is living with. Then life becomes more complicated, Joyce, the mother, begins to fall for him and becomes his mistress. But this might all be just be a bad game: Rick betrayed his wife with one of her sisters so Joyce is ready for revenge... although slowly Joyce's revenge turns into love and obsession.
