The End of Our Freedoms

Release date : 07/03/2019
A work of non-fiction written in the spirit of our times, at a moment when many are questioning whether liberalism can adapt to the urgency of the world’s current problems, like climate change, mass migrations and new forms of war.
Across western Europe, campaigning political parties are developing collective ideals of economic efficiency, social justice, and security while ignoring the issue of personal freedoms, as though taking them for granted. Across western Europe, campaigning political parties are developing collective ideals of economic efficiency, social justice, and security while ignoring the issue of personal freedoms, as though taking them for granted. Contrary to this belief, this book asserts that many freedoms have all but disappeared from our political and social life, and that the current collective ideals, far from producing more freedoms, are actually working to deprive us of them.
The development of our society—in which governmental regulations and the norms imposed on various aspects of our existence weigh heavier and heavier on us—the actual practice of democracy, the need for security, and recent cultural mutations have all damaged these freedoms over the last few years. These tendencies have gradually revealed that our key tenets of liberalism have been exhausted. Only a revision of the collective conception of man, society and political communities can save some of our most precious freedoms and serve as a resource to better understand the current times in which we live.
