An Egotist's Love

Release date : 06/01/2022
A journey through the land of love, down a road that will take you to the border of that delicate age beyond which one has to choose a path in life - without ever renouncing one’s true self. A delicate and poetic coming of age story.
Nico, a young Parisian of 26, studies the Arts and sings in a band. He is writing his master thesis on a series of paintings by Francis Bacon that the British painter has dedicated to the captivating figure of Vincent Van Gogh. At a party, he meets the enthralling Laura... Nico, a young Parisian of 26, studies the Arts and sings in a band. He is writing his master thesis on a series of paintings by Francis Bacon that the British painter has dedicated to the captivating figure of Vincent Van Gogh. At a party, he meets the enthralling Laura and falls madly in love with her. A love that will prove to be as unfathomable as the multitude of trajectories and perspectives he has to choose between at the end of this last year of freedom at college.
Hopes, illusions, peregrinations, Nico feels off balance. He has to fight for his dreams, since his desire to preserve and to hold on to his childhood ideals clashes with the requirements of a society that forces him, the sooner the better, to embrace a career and to stay the course. Dumbfounded, frozen at the edge of the abyss, like Van Gogh in Francis Bacon’s paintings, he still has to find the strength to move on.
Erring across Paris and trying to see Laura as often as possible, his only confident is a line of Serge Gainsbourg’s album « The Man with the Cabbage Head » he has found engraved on the singer’s tombstone. The beginning of a learning process, of a journey through the land of love, down a road that will take him to the border of that delicate age beyond which he has to choose his path, in love as well as for his professional career, without ever renouncing his true self.
