Before watching exoskeletons run, jump, and leap through stadiums to satisfy our demands for limitless perfectibility, shouldn’t we submit to our own imperfections and finiteness? Unlike machines, we are sensitive, fragile beings. And isn’t that precisely where our privilege lies? Is our desire to render the imperfect perfect quietly driving us toward a desire to rid ourselves of our bodies—these bodies that resist us?

In this work, Jean-Michel Besnier questions our desires for performance and records—in particular the post-humanist school of thought. Are we trying to run too fast, jump too high, and be too strong? Today, the question is probably less incongruous than it seems. Have we no other obsession than one day being able to run 100 meters in three seconds?
