Algiers. Clotilde, Judith, and Naïma, respectively Christian, Jewish, and Muslim, celebrate their twentieth birthday on the same day. In this Algeria of enchanting beauties, their youth is far from worry-free. Between her parents and the officer to whom they want to marry her, Clotilde feels the control of her life slipping away from her. Judith, suffocating in the traditional family cocoon, dreams of running away with her Arab lover. Naïma, on the other hand, was forced to give up her job as a nurse to look after her sick father and her brothers. Three fates doomed to separation or confrontation. For, until the independence of Algeria, misfortune and death will strike their families indiscriminately. Nevertheless these three women, who never stopped looking for each other on either side of the Mediterranean, would eventually meet again in 1962, in the sacred name of friendship, which was stronger for Clotilde, Judith and Naïma than any differences of opinion, race or religion.
