In this breakthrough work, Dr. Catherine Solano helps us to understand the complexities of sexuality so that we can live in harmony with our own. She discusses specific situations experienced by her patients that exemplify our need to understand ourselves better.
Solano has divided sexuality into 3 realms, or “minds”: impulsive, emotional and cognitive.
Our sexual impulses and the need for a desire to be satisfied stem from our impulsive minds.
The emotional mind provides us with the need to be loved and desired, the need to be unique, indispensable, and to be protected and nurtured.
Our cognitive mind serves as a gatekeeper; it can allow us to act on or reject our impulses and emotions. It is thanks to this third mind that we can deal with and overcome our sexual difficulties, and enjoy the pleasure sex brings.
Solano describes these three sexual minds in detail so that we understand the origins of our own particular impulses, emotions and decisions. Once these three minds function in harmony, our love lives and sexuality will be completely fulfilling.
