One summer, Max and Jacquotte host their grandchildren, almost strangers. A secret, too many unspoken words have kept them apart. Will the patient love of a grandmother, a past that has finally been forgiven and a shared passion for painting renew the strained family bond?
Summer 1986. Jacquotte and Max welcome their grandchildren to their house in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the "Comtadine Venice", a Mecca for art and antiques, not far from the iconic Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. For the first time, their daughter Nelly entrusts them with Nans (11) and Fanny (6). She has been estranged from her parents... She has been estranged from her parents for years. What has happened to make their relationship non-existent? Nans and Fanny arrive reluctantly at the home of grandparents they hardly know: a quiet grandfather, and a grandmother who dotes on them... and who exhausts them with her energy. Fortunately, there is Uncle Christophe, who takes life philosophically. When his little café is closed, he takes the children fishing on his flat-bottomed Provencal boat. It is partly through painting that the threads unravel and a strong bond is created, because the children soon discover that Max, so reluctant to share time with them, was a famous painter. And young Nans, crazy about drawing, discovers a passion for brushes. It is also thanks to a calmer past that Nelly and her parents will be reunited. But a few months later, Jacquotte dies of a brain tumour, leaving behind the ultimate proof of her love for Max: she discovered evidence of the woman who was her rival in her husband's heart thirty years earlier.
