For the past twenty years we have seen a euphemisation of social issues and a deep depolitisation of philosophical reflection. In this book the author seeks to reintroduce the social question into the field of philosophy and to rehabilitate its critical function. Can philosophy help the emergence of social struggles and the development of such forms of resistance ? For the author, the tradition of social philosophy has never been as strong or as necessary. Elements from sociology critical of domination (P. Bourdieu) and new critical theory of society (A. Honneth) combine to allow for a renewal of social philosophy.
Franck Fischbach is a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Toulouse. He is the author of several books, amongst which L’être et l’acte (Vrin, 2002), La production des hommes (PUF, 2005), and Sans objet. Capitalisme, subjectivité, aliénation (Vrin, 2009).
