Years later, Monsieur Michel, a jeweller, witnesses the murder of a man who came to him for the assessment of a necklace missing some gems. The jeweller knew that necklace, for it is its sale that allowed his parents to move from Pondichéry to Paris when he was a child.
The lover of the murdered man, Gilberte, a prostitute, finds comfort in Michel's arms, introducing him to an underworld he never knew existed. When the killer is told by a fortune teller that the necklace will prove to be fatal to its owner if it is incomplete, he forces Monsieur Michel to find the missing gems.
Yves Aubin has always been fascinated by India and Pondichéry. His first novel Dans les vents du Coromandel was published by Robert Laffont in 2000 and translated into German.
