As a member of France’s inspiring national team that won the European championship in 1984 along with Michel Platini, Luis Fernandez, and Jean Tirana, Giresse brought a unique magic to the sport throughout the 1980s with his dazzling technique and terrific attitude. His pure intentions have always helped him rise above the corruption of the soccer world.

At 67, he is finally telling his story, from his journey to becoming a professional player to his career as a coach (Paris Saint-Germain, Toulouse) and a manager, mainly in Africa (Senegal, Mali, Tunisia). This “second life” opened up new horizons and enriched his cultural understanding. Now, he offers his perspective on a constantly changing sport, both on and off the field, with its infuriating crowds and incessant failings (the astronomical costs, as well as the rampant racism and sexism). Enraged by the power struggles, he is now an advocate for change in the ruling authorities, both in France and on an international level. After 50 years in the soccer world, “Gigi” has encountered his share of bizarre managers, remarkable players, and hilarious partners, forming many genuine, lifelong  friendships along the way. With warmth, humor, and candor, he recounts his experience here for the first time.
