Following a debate on France’s parliamentary channel in January 2020 in which he ‘questioned’ Greta Thunberg’s universal authority on the subject of planetary disaster, the author faced a veritable backlash from the ecologists on social media. In debating with the polemicists in the TV studio, whose style he has refrained from adopting, he realised that he has always sought to take a nuanced approach and this inspired him to research in more depth this intriguing notion.
