Dispatched to the scene, Céleste Ibar, a police captain from Nantes, and her faithful lieutenant Ithri Maksen try to make the most of the clues left behind by the murderer. But how do you unmask a monster who looks just like everyone else? Thanks to the arrival of an unexpected ally and their own doggedness, the two officers manage to pick up the trail of the killer, but too late – a final murder is committed, leaving both of them agonising over their own shortcomings and blindness.
