Francis Dannemark paints a fictional fresco that is at once a quirky family saga, the portrait of an era, a poetic tale and a sweeping love story. Paul and Florent, the fraternal twins at the center of this fable-like novel, were born in the 1950s in a Belgian region devastated by WWII. They grow up with a father who is tender yet fragile and often absent, and a deeply disturbed mother, in a house on the edge of a vast forest, next the family sawmill. Their lives are anything but ordinary, especially thanks to Laszlo and Paliki, the Hungarian dwarves who come live with them. After surviving their unusual childhood, Florent, the musician, and Paul, the science teacher, navigate life as adults as best they can trying to hold on to the women they love.
