Since ancient times, in a village in the Périgord, the inhabitants were afraid of the Bérane, an aquatic beast that catches and drowns sinners and unbelievers in the river. In 1956, twelve-year-old Juliette did not believe this legend. To make a point, under the terrified eyes of her best friend, Fanette, she immerses herself in the “Gour”, a small water reservoir where the monster is believed to hide. The same evening, Fanette disappears. Shortly after, her body is found in the water, covered with scratches. In 1972, while Juliette still has not overcome the guilt of her friend's passing, her uncle Victor is killed in the same way. The young woman, assisted by a forensic police officer, the very attractive Amaury Delbard, decides to investigate. What is the heavy secret that her uncle and his three childhood friends had been hiding since their days in the Resistance? Could there be a link to Fanette's death? By digging into the past of these four men, Juliette risks awakening the monster, who may not be the one we think.
