Mondane, twenty years old, joins a husband whom she is afraid of and a mother-in-law used to rule everything. The young woman soon feels like a stranger. In 1914, the men, called up to enlist, leave the castle. Mondane, freed from her worries, can finally reveal her true temperament. She takes charge of the estate, to which she has become attached, and develops the cultivation of tobacco, the demand for which increases throughout the 20th century, especially during the two world wars. This precious tobacco was in fact part of the soldiers' kit. Powerful bonds of solidarity and friendship gradually bind all the women of Tarnhac...
