At the beginning of the sixteenth century, the Ottomans are threatening the kingdom of Hungary. Count Gabor, an uncommonly good chess player, governs the county of Paks, an imaginary province in the kingdom. His daughter Judit, an exceptional player as well, is disheartened by her father’s apathy in the face of the Turkish peril.  Out of idealism, she wants to succeed him as soon as possible. Her mother, Countess Livia, shelters the same ambition for power. The two women are rivals who hate each other. While Gabor spends his days drinking, Judit plans a diabolical scheme to reach her goals. She takes it right to the end, without fear or pity. Her legend is born.
