Born in 1954 in Mascara (Algeria), Patrice Guirao came to Tahiti in 1968. He only left the island to study in France at the French Civil Aviation University (École nationale de l’aviation civile). With his diploma in hand, he returned to “direct the skies” in the tropics. A few years later, he started a successful career as a songwriter, without ever leaving his beloved island. He wrote one hit after another, working with artists like Pascal Obispo, Art Mengo, Calogero, Johnny Hallyday and Florent Pagny, among others. He then devoted himself to writing several successful musicals (including The Ten Commandments, The Sun King, Cleopatra, Mozart, and Robin Hood) and crime thrillers, all published with Au Vent des Îles (including his series Al Dorsey: Tahiti Detective, which was adapted into a TV series). Patrice Guirao is also the author of a manifesto that appears at the end of this work, in which he lays out a new genre, the “azure noir” thriller.
