The Roads to Freedom

Release date : 24/09/2020
Travelling across the world on her motorbike, Mélusine explores the notion of freedom for both herself, and the women she meets on her travels.

In June of 2010, Mélusine decided to head out alone on her old 125cm² motorcycle and “go as far as possible” heading east. People told her she wouldn’t get outside Paris. But four months later, she made it to Vladisvostok, with only the Sea of Japan stopping her. Along the way, she discovered what she had been looking for: freedom in a seemingly infinite world. But from this uncommon rite of passage, she would come back with many questions about the idea of freedom and how it differs from one place for the next, especially for women.
So she decides to head out once more, still alone, still on her motorcycle, because the mode of transport is the best way to meet people and lets her go almost anywhere. From the Middle East to Central Asia, from Southeast Asia to East Africa, she crosses a number of misunderstood countries that we tend to view negatively, including Iran, Rwanda, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Somalialand. Over 50,000 miles in over 40 countries, 10 films, and thousands of encounters and interviews later, she tells the story of her endless quest in this book.
