While each sister has her own style, they Sorlets won the hearts of thousands of followers, especially on Instagram, through a common theme: love. Their naïve, delicate, figurative works in pop colors are followed by hundreds of thousands of people.
In October, looking towards Christmas, they decided to bring together some of their artworks in two publications that would offer each sister’s take on love. How can you express love without words? That is the question they each tried to answer. A common theme for two paintbrushes.
“Love is what makes the earth go ‘round,” says Lorraine Sorlet. Tender and impish, her drawings, whether single images or in a strip, represent those love-filled moment when silence speaks of a body’s softness. She is inspired by everyday life, but also her reading, including the works of Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters, as well as American painting of the 1930s, especially Edward Hopper.
