Nevertheless, they consider them to be original and very valuable. In this work Arlette Farge presents archives which are close to her heart and which give us a different view of history.

“In my case, I’ve always kept these texts from the archives carefully (anonymous letters, love letters, registers of reports, many medical opinions on the body, humanist ideas on how to better care for others.” These diverse abandoned archives finally become an historical object, a subject made up of several components of eighteenth-century life, which have never been glimpsed before. We see faces, bodies, concerns about the well-being of others, pardons and many other things. In short, we see a story on the sidelines of history, not about an event, the life of a particular figure or a fact but about aspects of humanity which make up a new landscape. A different way of looking at history, understanding it, carrying it within ourselves.”
