Born a woman, she has to band her breasts and hide her gender identity as do all her sisters of the heather tribe. This disguise, imposed by the terrible keeper of the law, is a ruse to protect the women of the heather tribe from the dominant people of the Leifa, who are unable to produce female offspring.
But beyond the internal struggles that agitate the little archipelago, there is a far more terrifying enemy menacing the purple Isles: the Empire with its fleet of vessels that chase away the native whales. Breaking with the taboos of their societies, 7 17 year old people from the Purple Isles composed of Leifas, hero women, and Yvanel, embark on a perilous journey in hope of negotiating a peaceful future for their archipelago.
Throughout their journey, they discover new and strange worlds, foreign languages, cultures, the sprawling megalopolis as well as the dingy salt mines where serfs are generating the wealth of the Empire.
Armed with courage and intelligence, Yvanel quickly blends into this new world. But his adapting is nothing else than a disguise that enables him to make his way into the heart of the Empire’s system and to save his homeland.
The fight for the liberty of the Purple Isles has started – a fight for a better and more equal world.
