My Nazi Summer

Release date : 04/06/2020
An enthralling novel in which, in spite of its child-like tone, a strong sense of danger and violence is ever-present.
10-year-old Alex lives in a little village in northern France with his depressed mother and his police officer father, who is often away on business.

It is summer and Alex is bored. He has nothing to do with his days other than hang out in the street dreaming of the Nazis...
10-year-old Alex lives in a little village in northern France with his depressed mother and his police officer father, who is often away on business.

It is summer and Alex is bored. He has nothing to do with his days other than hang out in the street dreaming of the Nazis he sees in his father’s magazines who impress him with their elegance.

After a few days, Alex meets Seb and Daddy, two boys who, like him, draw swastikas and despise the “bougnoules” from North Africa. The three of them decided to eliminate the foreigners from the village. But they remain unsuccessful and content themselves with making other kinds of trouble: burning down a barn, hanging out at the slaughterhouse, defiantly riding mopeds, building a raft to get to Germany… Until a    tragedy occurs. More than ever, Alex dreams of leaving the village in which he has always felt trapped.

Joy returns, despite everything, when a new family moves to the village, with a little girl whom Alex falls in love with, and a baby adopted from Senegal. What? A bougnoule! The villagers rally into action…
