When he was a kid, he very good at school. But what is it worth for when you are born and meant to stay poor? Roger took some unrewarding jobs, was an activist, he danced and he went to war. Then he met Renée, a young woman way above his social class. He loved her at first sight and they got married. He promised he would build her dream house. So, he took his stride; “Les Trente Glorieuses” (“The Glorious Thirty”) were within reach! Every Sunday, he used to take his family to the beach with the same van he used to work with during the week. Life was hard but they were happy.
Suddenly, his beloved wife died aged 39. Fifteen days later, in a tragic twist of fate, he was finishing building her dream-house. So, he went anyway and lived there with his two children. Without her. He remained disconsolate. His son, as an adult, left him to go to Paris… His daughter, as an adult, threw herself under a train not far from home. This was his last hardship.
