Our female narrator is drawn to “Anastasia, a sublime blonde of about 1500 pounds”—all wrapped up in silky paper in the colors of the animal and put into a chilled box of thick cardboard in the colors of the establishment. This meat has a superpower: whoever smells it and eats it, even vegetarians, cannot do without it, as complete happiness spreads throughout their body. When our narrator meets Donovan S. a second time, he doesn’t beat around the bush: he wants to know if she will simply give up her daily life to come work with him.
