Languedoc, 1685. Under Madame de Maintenon’s influence, Louis XIV just revoked the Edict of Nantes: Protestants have to convert – or die. First slaughters occur in the Cévennes: Marquis de Souvré, as cruel as lustful, kills the villagers of a Huguenot town.
Pierre d’Aumelas, a young lord, wants to stand up against the King. With his childhood friend Balthazar Herrero, a descendant of the Spanish Moors who chose exile over the Inquisition and a doctor already renowned despite his young age, he rides to Paris – and falls in love with a beautiful damsel whom brigands attacked…
But getting an appointment with the King is far from easy. Even more because he is sick and dying. In order to do so, Pierre gets help from Louis II de Condé – who fought with him in Flanders. Meanwhile Balthazar meets the King’s doctor – and will be the one who manages to cure him.
Duels, love affairs, bloody murders, feasts: Black Sun tells the hidden reality behind the French “Grand Siècle”, getting its inspiration from the French greatest classic authors such as Alexandre Dumas, Choderlos de Laclos or Edmond Rostand.
