On the night of August 7th to 8th, 2004, in Isère, a horrific crime took place. Four 357 magnum bullets were shot at point-blank range in front of around sixty persons. Former French national team captain Marc Cécillon, Chantal’s husband, killed her. This tragedy leaves us with the collective memory of the demise of a sporting icon who was duped by the false promises of elite sport, a man who was overcome by his demons, and the perpetrator of a crime of passion with all the mitigating circumstances connected with this expression. Didn’t he just say, “Love caused this… I adore her,” to the policemen.
On the other side, Chantal, about whom so little was mentioned, is no longer among us. The author presents this criminal case from the victims’ perspective in order to revaluate the story, particularly with the aid of unreleased testimonials from Chantal’s relatives.
Ludovic Ninet made the controversial decision to write a book after carefully examining all the information that had been revealed by the media and legal proceedings, as well as by researching the causes of crime in general and feminicide in particular. He was motivated by a personal conviction and wanted to temporarily resurrect this woman who had been brutally murdered.
An intriguing look at the case, the killer’s character, and a homage to Chantal’s voice, who will forever remain silenced.
