The Return of Ariane

Collection : Terres de France
Release date : 18/08/2022
Ariane, the "prodigal child", returns to her village in Lozère where her quest for the truth about those who have done her harm revives the shadows of the Occupation... Stand-alone sequel to Les Fiancés de l'été.
Ariane has returned to Florac after an absence of thirteen years, since the 1945 Liberation. With her daughter, Emma, she left Paris and the hectic life she led there at her haute couture house in October 1957, a few months after the death of Christian Dior. She has not forgotten... Ariane has returned to Florac after an absence of thirteen years, since the 1945 Liberation. With her daughter, Emma, she left Paris and the hectic life she led there at her haute couture house in October 1957, a few months after the death of Christian Dior. She has not forgotten what happened to her at the end of the war: her arrest by the Free French in front of her dumbfounded neighbours, her shame, and then the ignominy of being shorn in public in Nîmes for having had relations with a German officer.

She is still angry at her father for having condemned her without appeal, even though he himself did not refuse to work for the Germans. A distraught and broken young girl at the time of the events, she has become an accomplished and self-confident young woman. She has also changed a lot physically. She is hardly recognisable. At thirty-three, beautiful and fulfilled, Ariane seems to have drawn a line under her past.

So why has she returned to Florac?
