Ribes has a colorful background.  He was born in a brothel at the end of the 1940s where one was more likely to pick up a gun than a paintbrush.  His passion for drawing helped him move on to something better. 
 
His friendship with a printer helped him transform from being an artist specialized in water paintings to becoming a brilliant forger.  Ribes put aside his own style and learned to paint like the masters, not creating copies but rather re-creating chef-d’oeuvres.  His talent duped art experts which helped him succeed in art trafficking and conning several art collectors out of fortunes.
 
That is, until the police finally caught up with him…
